Community Access Program

Why It Exists

Translating a family's finances should never be a child's burden; a gap I see every day. At some tax sites, businesses and families are shown the bottom line and asked to sign, completely confused with what is on the page. And this doesn’t just happen in financial institutions, it happens in doctor’s offices, schools, and other community resources; phone call where no one understands, with abrupt ends to almost all calls, without meeting a need.

I have stepped in during these times to translate, being joyfully met with relief: "Oh, you speak Spanish?? Thank you!". I have also watched people talk slow and loud in English, as if volume and speed would help make an unknown language, make sense. I have seen families mocked and walk away looking defeated.

When I stepped into the financial world through bookkeeping, I saw and opportunity to serve our community by offering bilingual services to businesses and families at a lower cost.

Though I was able to find some free community programs and resources, none were available in Spanish. I had access to things this community did not, and I want to share my blessings by giving back.

Access should not depend on language or financial ability.

And THAT is where Our Community Access Program steps in.

‍How It's Funded

The profits earned through regular paying clients fund the Community Access Program, so it does not rest on free hours or donations alone. BR Financial Group (BRFG) serves paying clients with bookkeeping and tax services, allowing for affordable financial services for all.

Access works in two layers:

  1. The Pro-Bono & Sliding Scale. Families pay a price based on their income, so a return costs what their household can carry.

  2. The Community Access Fund. If a family still cannot afford the scaled price, the fund covers an extra discount. It is a safety net for the last gap.

The fund is built from 5% of profit from BRFG and its government contracting work, plus pay-it-forward gifts from people who can give a little extra. It grows as BRFG grows.

Four Phases: Roots, Impact, Sovereignty, Empowerment

The program grows in four phases, and each one is unlocked by something specific.

The numbers are targets we are building capacity toward, not promises.

Phase 1: Roots (Groundwork & Infrastructure)

Unlocked by: Partnerships with local churches, Hispanic business associations and community leaders.

  • Create Accessibility: Mobile intake station, pop-ups in safe zones, and discounted & pro-bono services.

  • BRFG: Prove the model with paying clients, including complex cleanups such as a 3.5-year backlog resolved in a single session.

  • Why: Financial clarity brings personal safety and security and community growth.

Phase 2: Impact (Mobile Access and Financial Clarity)

Unlocked by: the mobile unit and the partnerships built in Phase 1.

  • For the Community: A target of 35 returns through local pop-ups, plus two entry-level workshops on family budgeting and tax basics for sole proprietors.

  • BRFG: 8 to 10 recurring monthly bookkeeping clients, 4 to 5 cleanup or catch-up projects a month, and partnerships with 1 to 2 CPA or EA firms.

  • Our Promise: Remove financial and language barriers so business owners and families do more than survive tax season - helping them thrive. They gain real understanding and control over their numbers.

Phase 3: Sovereignty (Financial Independence & Systems)

Unlocked by: Seasonal help with intake and data entry, so I am no longer doing everything myself.

  • For the Community: A target of 60 to 75 subsidized returns a year through a recurring Saturday room at a partner community center, plus financial education workshops with community and business partners.

  • BRFG: Grow the recurring client base, take on larger corporate catch-up projects, and onboard a first seasonal admin assistant for intake and document scanning.

  • Our Goal: Equip families and entrepreneurs to break the cycle of fear around money and build lasting independence.

Phase 4: Empowerment (Community Hub & Sustainability)

Unlocked by: full-time leadership and a dedicated seasonal space.

  • For the Community: A target of 100+ returns with wrap-around support, a rented tax-season space alongside Saturday church pop-ups, and referrals to trusted legal and immigration resources.

  • BRFG: I lead BRFG full time, and the firm becomes the go-to regional specialist for small business setups, cleanups and CPA back-end support.

  • Our Legacy: A permanent, safe space where community members get clear financial answers without judgment, long after the first funding is spent.

What the Community Gets

Businesses and families to understand their own return, and someone to call afterward. Instead of being handed a bottom line and asked to sign, they can ask why, in the language they are most comfortable in.

Say the refund is smaller than last year. We look at why together, and then the family can decide: change the W-4 at work, or adjust the household budget to make up the difference.

The help does not end when the return is filed. Recently, a client called me about a letter from the IRS and wanted to understand it. She called because she has someone she can ask.

Where We Are Headed

I would like to see this program start in other cities, run by trusted paid workers or volunteers.

That is where it could go, not a promise. I will see how this year goes first.
